Paphos named best value winter sun destination for Brits in 2019

Brits looking to beat the winter blues may want to head to the picturesque shores of Cyprus!

The popular holiday spot has been named the best value destination for Brits looking for winter sun in 2019, closely followed by Canary Islands Lanzarote and Tenerife.

The research was conducted by the Post Office Travel Money team who looked at factors including the cost of a one-week holiday package (based on two sharing a room) at the beginning of January, an evening meal including wine, and the average prices of coffee and beers.

Cyprus came out top, specifically the city of Paphos, with a total average cost of £381.98pp.

It's worth noting that during January, Cyprus isn't as hot as you'd expect compared to the summer - in fact, temperatures tend to average around 16C, but there's still heaps of sunshine.

So while it's not quite 'lazing on the beach' weather, it is ideal for those who want to go exploring or want to do some sightseeing. Or of course, take a scenic stroll along one of the incredible beaches (just bring a jumper!).

However, if it is hot and sunny weather you want, there are plenty more options in the top 10 best value round-up, with the likes of CancunDubai and Phuket also proving to offer Brits the most bang for their buck.

No wonder they're hailed as some of the best winter sun destinations in the world.

The best part is that at the moment you could stretch your budget that little bit further thanks to the January sales, with travel giants including British AirwayseasyJet and all slashing prices on everything from city breaks to beach holidays.
